Toon has been researching music learning for several years, more specifically Edwin Gordon's Music Learning Theory. He has followed several courses, at the Conservatories of Mannheim and Hamburg, as well as at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, with Dr. Christopher Azzara. Toon's focus lies in instrumental curricula and creative musicianship. In 2019, he worked as a researcher at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp on his project Audiation-based Learning: a Preparatory Study to Developing an MLT-based Guitar Method. This research resulted in a prototype for learning the guitar based on the principles of Music Learning Theory, a report on this research can be downloaded below.
